In May 2003, the hospital was reaccredited until 2006 by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), the nation’s premiere indicator of quality of health care. In May of 2004, the laboratory at MCMC was reaccredited for two more years by JCAHO. The hospital offers 24-hour emergency care by board-certified emergency physicians. Patients are cared for in private Emergency Department and inpatient rooms. Support services at Miami County Medical Center include radiology, laboratory, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, occupational and speech therapy and social services. The hospital opened its doors June 29, 1996, and continues to add new patient services and specialists. The medical center has a state-of-the-art surgical department where many surgical specialists practice. Full time surgical specialists at Miami County Medical Center include: Dr. David Brown, board-certified general surgeon, joined the Miami County Medical Center Medical staff in 2000. Dr. Brown does all kinds of general surgery including procedures for the abdomen, GI tract, gall bladder, breast and extremities. Dr. David Burnett, board-certified podiatrist, recently joined the medical staff. Dr. Burnett’s practice includes diagnosis and surgical treatment for the foot. Dr. Everett James Wilkinson, an orthopedic surgeon, joined the Miami County Medical Center team full time in July 2004. Dr. Wilkinson performs all types of general orthopedic procedures on the musculo-skeletal system.
Medical Specialists on staff at Miami County Medical Center include: Cardiology: Both inpatient and outpatient cardiac care is provided by Cardiology Services, an affiliate of Olathe Health System, Inc. Board-Certified Cardiologists provide cardiac stress testing, echocardiography and general diagnostic cardiology for inpatient consults and outpatient testing five-days-a-week. Internal Medicine/Gerontology: Charles Davis, MD, a board-certified internal medicine physician, recently joined the MCMC medical staff specializing in gerontology. Other new services include a bone densitometer and a state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) - 50% faster than any open MRI. In 2001, the hospital unveiled its charitable advisory board by kicking off the Dr. Robert E. Banks Excellence in Health Care Endowment Fund with a $1 million contribution from Olathe Health System, Inc. The board raised nearly $130,000 from the community for a water therapy pool. The pool opened in April 2003 and offers therapy and treatment for patients with arthritis, fibromyalgia, joint problems, back pain, hip replacement and knee replacement. The pool also provides wellness and aerobics classes. |
