Treatment
Advances
- Fluoroscopic capabilities have been greatly advanced, often allowing
for quicker decisions on treatment options and more timely evaluations
of the
chosen treatment plan. The expanded services also include
evaluation and placement of implanted intrathecal pain pumps.
The Olathe Medical Center Pain Management Center will continue its
spinal cord
stimulator/dorsal column stimulator evaluation and placement.
- Patients are seen and evaluated for ablative
procedures.
These procedures permanently disrupt the nerve and allow many patients
suffering from chronic pain to resume a normal and active lifestyle.
In cancer patients, these procedures often allow terminal patients
to be in relative comfort without debilitating pain.
- The Pain Management Center (PMC) has added Radiofrequency Ablations
to the services provided in the PMC. RF Ablation is a treatment for
chronic pain. It involves placing a needle at the correct site associated
with the pain and transmitting a small radiofrequency current to
disrupt the specific nerve sending pain signals to the brain. Pain
relief usually lasts for 3-12 months and the procedure can be repeated
if necessary.
