Your Experience at OMCI Surgery
Check-In Process
You will be asked to confirm
the procedure you have scheduled, if you have allergies and if
you have had anything to eat or
drink. Please don’t be offended by this, as this is our way
to assure quality care. It is a common practice. In admitting,
your personal
information
will be verified also, like your phone number, address,
date of birth and insurance information. Don’t worry, we
have this information already. It is just another quality care
measure.
Day Surgery
You will be assigned a nurse to help you get
ready for surgery. In most instances, you will be asked to put on a hospital
gown and remove all
jewelry and contact lenses. Please let the staff know if you have
dentures or removable dental work. We suggest that you travel light!
Visitors are allowed at this point, however we ask that only two visitors
at a time be in the pre-op room. Of course, there is plenty of room for
visitors in our family waiting room.
At this point an IV will be started and any pre-op meds will be given.
Both your surgeon and anesthesia personnel will come in and talk
to you and answer any questions you might have.
Once you leave for surgery, we will ask your visitors to go to the family
waiting room. This is where your surgeon will talk with your visitors after
your surgery.
Surgery
Once it is time for your surgery, the circulating
RN from the operating room will verify your name and what we will be doing
for you.
Recovery Room
After surgery, you will be taken to the
recovery room for at least 30 to 60 minutes. You will wear devices
to monitor your heart
and your breathing. Depending on your surgery,
you either will be admitted to the hospital or will go back to Day Surgery
for further monitoring, to get dressed and be given discharge instructions.
We ask that a designated visitor be a part of your discharge process.
We
will take you out to your waiting vehicle by wheelchair.
If you have been given general anesthesia you will not be permitted to drive.
